- Crust
- The thin, rocky outer layer we live on: about 5 to 70 km thick.
- Mantle
- The thickest layer, about 2,900 km of hot rock that flows very slowly.
- Outer core (liquid)
- A layer of liquid iron and nickel. Its movement creates Earth’s magnetic field.
- Inner core (solid)
- A solid ball of iron and nickel at the center, kept solid by enormous pressure despite being about as hot as the Sun’s surface.
